Hair loss occurs to everyone as you age. It can’t be prevented. It can be reduced though. Reducing the amount of hair fall or slowing down the process of hair fall will lead to stopping male baldness.

There are many products on the market to slow down the process and in some cases reverse the process of balding. These range from tonics, supplements, prescription drugs, hair transplants, and more.

There are several over the counter drugs available, as prescribed by medical professionals. Two of these have been approved by the FDA.

Finasteride (Propecia (UK), Proscar) – an oral treatment tablet for baldness. It inhibits enzymes, which lead to DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) production. DHT is a potent form of testosterone, which interacts with sensitive hair receptors and shrinks follicles, leading to a reduction in hair growth and hair loss. This tablet is an expensive option and will have to be taken for as long as you want to prevent baldness. It should be used only on prescription from a doctor. Its potential side effects include loss of virility and sex drive reduction.

Minoxidil, which is sold under the brand name Regaine – this is a topical liquid application. It is applied twice on a daily basis. It increases blood flow to the scalp and stimulates hair follicles. The liquid leads to hair growth within four months for most men. It may work in reverse for others. It should be taken only on doctor’s prescription. People with heart disease should avoid taking the medication. It may lead to increase in blood pressure, scalp irritation, and redness. Hair may also grow in other parts of the body.

We recommend you to try Procerin supplement.

Hair Transplant

There are methods of hair transplant. These include follicular transplantation and follicle unit extraction.

Follicle Unit Transplant or FUT – in this method, skin with follicles is removed from the back of the scalp (where there is more hair growth) and transplanted to the bald patches.

Follicle Unit Extraction or FUE – in this method follicles are directly removed from the scalp and transplanted to bald patches.

Both approaches are a bit risky and expensive. They may lead to skin irritation and redness. Multiple transplants are required to maintain it.

Oil Massage

Hair massage stimulates hair follicles and leads to growth. Additionally, massage with herbal or natural oils gives a better chance at hair growth. A blend of hibiscus flower oil, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil increases blood flow to the scalp.

Coconut oil, castor oil, and olive oil have also been used traditionally to increase hair growth. However, there are no proven medical benefits.

Biotin or Vitamin B7 supplements are good for hair growth. These are found in eggs, nuts, onions, sweet potatoes, and oats.

Ayurvedic Products

The ancient practice of Ayurved prescribes Bhringaraj (false daisy) hair oil or herbal capsules to treat hair loss.

DHT Blocking Shampoos

These shampoos contain compounds that can block DHT and inhibit hair loss. The medical experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of the shampoo. While they may not lead to hair growth, they will reduce hair fall and prevent hair loss. These shampoos include ketoconazole and Saw Palmetto. Both are said to work together to combat scalp flakiness, inhibit and reduce DHT.

Caffeine shampoos are also promoted as leading to hair growth and reducing hair loss.

Herbal shampoos with Ginseng and Aloe Vera soothe scalp conditions. These are good for promoting and stimulating hair follicles leading to hair growth.
However, there is no proven study where it cures baldness.

Hair Gels, Tonics, and Massage Creams

There are several products available on the market. These include Aloe Vera gel, or tonics with hibiscus extracts, horsetail, lavender or rosemary extracts, peppermint tonics. They only provide your hair with a fresh look and soothe the scalp. The act of massaging and the potency of the herbs lead to promoting hair growth by activating hair follicles. Regular use ensures that hair follicles don’t shrink.

There is no permanent cure for baldness. It is a natural result of aging. Medications and products only delay the process a bit as the effects get reversed when you stop using them.
